A Happy Hello

John sent me a beautiful happy Hello just when I needed it.
I don’t know how he does it but he never fails to amaze me and I love it.
Yesterday, when I was feeling so low and so sad and missing him so much, he literally made me happy and let me know that was exactly what he wanted me to be.
Here is what happened.
I have a blanket/throw that I had custom made after John passed. I keep it on the sofa and I like to cuddle with it. It's made of many photos of John as well as pictures of our pets.
So, I was watching TV and was patting one of his pictures on the blanket that I like a lot – this one:

I wasn't paying attention to the television. I was lost in thought and feeling very sad, missing John so much. The ache never goes away.
Then, I was suddenly aware of some other noises or voices that were obviously not coming from the TV. I muted the TV and realized the sound was coming from the kitchen. The Alexa Show that was on the kitchen countertop was playing music.
I went in to the kitchen to see what was going on.
Sure enough, Alexa had turned herself on and was playing a song.
But not just any song. No, she was playing the perfect song – “Happy” by Pharrell Williams.
It’s one of my favorites and I can’t help but dance to it.
It immediately put a smile on my face as I danced around the kitchen. I knew John was trying to make me smile, telling me to be happy.
I knew it.
I felt it.
And it worked.
I no longer felt alone. Instead, I knew he was reaching out to me in the best way he could.
When the song finished playing, Alexa stopped and went back into standby mode as if nothing had ever happened.
Message received, Sweetheart.
Thank you.
I love you.

The Shoes 👠👠
I am wearing a pair of shoes.
They are ugly shoes.
Uncomfortable shoes. I hate my shoes.
Each day I wear them, and each day I wish I had another pair.
Some days my shoes hurt so bad that I do not think I can take another step.
I get funny looks wearing these shoes.
Many will gossip and say hurtful things about how I wear my shoes.
Yet I can tell in their eyes that they are glad they are my shoes and not theirs.
They never ask about my shoes.
To learn how awful my shoes are might make them uncomfortable.
To truly understand these shoes you must walk in them.
But, once you put them on, you can never take them off.
I now realize that I am not the only one who wears these shoes.
There are many pairs in this world.
Some women ache daily as they try and walk in them.
Some have learned how to walk in them so they don't hurt quite as much as they did at first but the ache is always there.
No woman deserves to wear these shoes.
Yet, because of these shoes I am a stronger woman.
These shoes have given me the strength to face anything.
They have made me who I am.
I will forever walk in the shoes of a woman who has lost her husband.
